Earlier this week, The New York Times ran a First Mention item on Sigmund Freud. As indicated by the titling, the piece highlighted the first time Freud was mentioned in The Times. Fascinating reading and here. In addition to the insights on Freud (referenced by name in The Times almost 300 times with 1000 references to psychoanalysis), the First Mention item highlights the power of digitizing and performing text recognition on previously library-bound content.
In the case of The Times, the archive is free to digital subscribers (with a few conditions) and costs $3.95-per-article for everyone else. Searching is free.
For other blog items on the move to digitize previously print-bound content, see our entry here.
